I’ve just started watching ‘The Sopranos’ and I think I’m going through the same mid-life crisis as Tony. Okay, he’s a gangster and a killer but apart from that, we’re almost the same person. It was one of those lines in the show about ‘feeling that the best times are behind you’ that resonated with me. I suddenly thought, ‘Yes! I have a diagnosis why I’m feeling down at the moment.  I’m going through a mid-life crisis. I feel like life has passed me by. The perfect example of this is the fact that I’m watching ‘The Sopranos’ eleven years after it first came out!

It’s not just TV I’ve missed. I’m totally out of touch with music. I don’t really listen to modern music any more because I don’t think it really addresses the issue in my life.  There aren’t any songs called, ‘Don’t go breaking my heart! I’ve already got a bad back and a dodgy knee!’

I’m still in Cyprus because of the volcano and while flights are now leaving, the CSE people have kept me out for another week to entertain the troops. Today we did a gig to a group of lads from the North on a stage without cover in the midday sun. It wasn’t the perfect set up for a southern softie but they were, as ever, very kind as I melted in the heat. I’m not sure whether they were laughing with me or at me. That’s kind of the story of my life.

I still haven’t seen the election debate from yesterday but reports suggest that we really might be becoming a country with three main political parties. I’m a fan of this. The more parties there are, then the more people feel that a party truly represents them which is better for democracy. I look forward to living under proportional representation when we can see countless political parties that truly reflect our perspective. I’d be a member of a ‘Fat Camp Party’ with policies including the force-feeding of male models and the death penalty for skinny people who make ‘man boob’ jokes. Our campaign slogan, ‘Less Judgement. More Crying.’ It would be easy to form a coalition with us. We’d do anything for chocolate.
