These are some of the things that are annoying me at the moment:
– Radio broadcasts wittering on about whether John Terry should have been dropped as England captain because he can’t keep it in his shorts.
- Climate change deniers thinking that some snow falling means the climate’s not getting warmer long term.
- People calling Obama a communist in the US because he wants all people to have access to adequate healthcare.
- David Cameron’s opportunism and general all round mock concerned demeanour.
- Gordon Brown talking about the John Terry case. Stop it Gordon! We know you don’t care. It just annoys us when you feel you have to pass comment on popular culture. You are a bookish, grumpy nerd and we want you to be yourself. I’m sure like every other Scotsman, you love it when an England team’s in trouble.
- Scotsmen enjoying England teams being in trouble.
- Jeremy Kyle – I know I shouldn’t watch it but it’s the only thing on the TV at the gym.
- The gym.
- The fact I go to the gym and work out really hard. Then I go to a mirror in the changing room, expecting to see some difference after all that pain, but am once again confronted by my sad, saggy, almost apologetic body.
- Being in Cardiff when England are about to play rugby against Wales at Twickenham. I’ve been invited to watch the game at Cardiff Rugby Club – I have a feeling I’ve been set up. They’ll probably make me sit by the screen wearing a dunce cap as Wales trounce us.
- Being a pessimist about England’s sporting chances so that I’ve already protected myself against the possibility of the side losing.
- The fact I care about a stupid game like rugby. It’s not like I know the players. My sister was asked out by Will Carling at University though.
- My appalling name dropping. The Queen told me to stop it at the Royal Variety performance. Bette Midler, who was beside me said, ‘Yes Hal. It is annoying.’ Whoopi Goldberg told them to stop bullying me.
Oooh, that feels a bit better! I might try and make lists of whatever’s annoying me at least once a week.
On the plus side, I am top of the leader board at Bejeweled on Facebook. If you do nothing but play this game you will eventually become a winner! It’s a fantastic prize for those of us determined to waste our lives.
