Hal Cruttenden - Stand Up, Writer, Actor

Hal's Blog

It’s Saturday morning and I’m at the Blackpool Opera House about to do my first rehearsal for the Royal Variety Performance. It’s all very exciting! I actually couldn’t sleep last night and, for the first time in a long time, it was excitement keeping me awake….ooeer missus!

I’ve already seen Diversity (from ‘Britain’s Got Talent’) and so had to message the kids. They love them. I’m going to pop down now and see Lady Gaga doing her rehearsal. I’m stuck in a nightmare world of young, sexy people who are Gods to Britain’s teenagers. I know I’m only on the show as eye candy for the over 50s. Very pleased with who I’m sharing a  dressing room with – it’s with most of the comics – (not Whoopi Goldberg sadly) – but Roy Walker, Adam Hills and Paddy McGuiness. It will be lovely to be with my own people

I’ve got to keep this short and sweet because in a moment I’m heading down to see Lady Gaga running through her stuff. I hope I’m not following her on the night! ‘And now….after a sexy, dangerous young star, it’s a portly sweaty camp man to entertain you.’

  1. Hal,

Just had to say, I have never – ever – laughed at stand up comedy as hard as I did at your performance last night. It was, quite literally, absolutely genius. I mean, entirely outstanding. I’ve never seen anything like it. There were several points where I couldn’t take a breath due to my inability to control the hilarity (my wife kept asking if I was ok, she’d never seen me laugh like that before – no doubt because it hasn’t happened before).

I dare say, we’ll be seeing a lot more of you from now on. Massive, gargantuan, ‘well done’. And ‘thank you’.

  3. Hal,

I was also lucky enough to be in the audience at Blackpool, and your comedy was one of the performance highlights for me and my wife. As I’m from Belfast and she’s from London, some of your material hit us both right in the funny bone, and I’m glad to see that most of it made the cut on the TV tonight!

We’ll be looking out for when you’re next live in our region.

    Many thanks, Dave
