Hal Cruttenden - Stand Up, Writer, Actor

Hal's Blog

I had it confirmed on Friday that I’m appearing on the Royal Variety Show on December 7th at Blackpool Opera House. Yyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeesssssssss!

Sorry I haven’t blogged for ages but I am so busy and performing for royalty just makes the next few weeks even more intense. I really have very full days at the moment (although I’m not sure whether this is due to the fact that, while our kitchen is being done, it’s much nicer to be out doing stuff than hanging around the house). No seriously, I am very busy. Today I got up; went to our neighbours for breakfast (as I said no kitchen); took the kids to school; went to the gym; then onto the local Regus Offices to get some work done on stand up and a TV show I’m writing for (will tell all at a later date); then went to Sky News studios at Millbank to do an interview about whether Rebecca Adlington should be asking the BBC to further punish Frankie Boyle (she shouldn’t – it was a mean joke but she’s a fool to try and push this – comedians love being martyrs); then straight from the studios to the Comedy Store to do a benefit hosted by Alastair Campbell – he opened the show and then sat at the side of the stage taking notes!! If he nicks my gags I’ll be forced to steal his ideas and go into politics(no one wants that – artistic types always turn out to be psychos in the political arena, eg, Hilter was a painter, Stalin was a ballet dancer).

Anyway, back to the Royal Variety, I am really delighted to involved in such a massive part of British culture. Whatever happens in my career, to have been on the Royal Variety is just an enormous compliment and potentially a great opportunity to reach a much bigger audience. If it goes badly of course, I’ll just go round saying it’s a minor benefit gig and I wasn’t trying. It’s a fabulous bill for the show as well: Peter Kay hosting, Whoopi Goldberg, Bette Midler, Katherine Jenkins, Alexandra Burke, Jason Manford etc.. I’d be watching it even if I wasn’t on it.
